Registering a digital certificate
I HAVE RECEIVED MY DIGITAL CERTIFICATE FROM VERISIGN. NOW WHAT DO I DO?
Before a digital certificate can be used with the ICS, it must be installed and registered correctly. Customs and Border Protection has designed as a step-by-step installer package to assist you in getting connected to the ICS.
The installer package includes all of the program files and guides needed to complete the process. It is important that these steps be followed in the order that they appear.
The package includes the Common-use Signing Interface (CSI) software, which is designed to allow secure communication with government agencies, and supports the use of digital certificates in online transactions.
Internet Explorer version 6 or above is required for viewing the material within the package. Clients with older versions can still view the material, however, they will not be able to view the menu items, and will have to access documents individually.
To get connected to Customs, complete the steps outlined in the installer in the following order:
- Install CSI and Java
- Remove the Google toolbar (if appropriate)
- Download your digital certificates from VeriSign
- Export your private key
- Export your public key
- Save your digital certificates
- Add your digital certificates to the CSI store
- Set a default certificate
- Configure your email program to read encrypted email
- Self registration
- Create an EDI site.
The installer package can be downloaded from the First Time Users page by clicking here.
Note: Before you attempt to download this installer file, be aware that it is large. (Approx 68MB).
If you do not wish to download this file, you may request a CD copy be posted to you.
Send your request via email to: cargosupport@customs.gov.au. Include a contact name, organisation name, ABN and a mailing address.
